What is the Family Assist Project?
The Family Assist Project is a collaborative effort between South Jersey Legal Services, Inc. (SJLS) and private, volunteer family law attorneys. Through this project, low-income residents in South Jersey meet with volunteer attorneys for advice on matters such as:
- Divorce
- Child Support
- Parenting Time
- Property Division
- Adoption
The Family Assist Project provides 30-minute telephone advice consultations to individuals in need of family law advice.
What Help Can I Receive Through This Project?
If you qualify, you will receive a free 30-minute telephone advice consultation with an experienced family law attorney. The attorney will not draft documents for you or attend court with you – the attorney will provide you with advice only. If our office determines that you are eligible to participate, you will be directed to fax any current court orders relating to your problem to 1-856-964-9415.
How Can I Participate in This Project?
If you would like to see if you qualify for this Project, you may contact the Centralized Intake Unit at 1-800-496-4570 to be screened for eligibility. Intake hours are Monday through Friday, from 8:30am to 4:00pm. You may also Apply Online to submit an application for consideration.
