Overview

The Expungement Project assists individuals who need expungements often to gain better employment or housing.

The initial financial eligibility screening is handled through the SJLS Centralized Intake Unit (CIU). Cases are then evaluated to determine if they meet the SJLS case acceptance guidelines. If a case is determined to be one that we handle, the case is referred out to one of the volunteer attorneys on the Private Attorney Involvement Program panel (PAI).

Volunteer attorneys are provided with the client’s New Jersey Criminal History Check, PROMIS/Gavel records, the client’s municipal court record, and the client’s eCourts Party Court History and any other relevant documents provided by the client.

The Expungement Project will be hosting an event at the Alms Center, 1 Martin Luther King, Jr., Way, Bridgeton, NJ on Thursday, Oct. 30, 2025.
