Wage Dispute

SJLS can assist workers with pay disputes. SJLS can provide services including advice up to in-court representation depending on the facts of your case. All of our services are free. Issues include but are not limited to rate* of pay, deductions, and hours offered. Workers have the right to a complete and accurate paystub. In New Jersey, workers have the right to earned paid sick leave.

*(minimum wage for 2025 season is $17.96/hour).

Housing Issues

SJLS can provide assistance from advising workers how to improve conditions in employer-provided housing to filing a case against employers to force them to make repairs.

Safety

SJLS may be able to assist in these matters depending on the facts of your case. Common issues regarding safety include but are not limited to exposure to pesticides, access to bathrooms, access to clean drinking water, and safe transportation.

Documents

Workers should call SJLS right away if their employer is holding their identification documents such as passport, id, paperwork, etc. 

Discrimination

SJLS can provide assistance in cases involving harassment and/or discrimination.

Other Issues

SJLS can provide advice and/or representation in employment situations. We cannot provide services to undocumented workers except in very limited circumstances (i.e. SJLS may be able to assist victims of labor trafficking).
