Overview

The Divorce Project is a collaborative effort between South Jersey Legal Services, Inc. (SJLS) and private, volunteer attorneys to assist individuals with no-fault, no issue divorces. To participate in this project, clients must not have any debt or asset issues. If there are children born of the marriage, the client must have orders establishing custody and child support. The client must also have a good address for their spouse.

Initial financial eligibility screening is accomplished through the SJLS Centralized Intake Unit. Cases which meet the financial eligibility are transferred to the Private Attorney Involvement Program for referral to a panel of volunteer attorneys.

Volunteer attorneys receive a copy of the client’s intake questionnaire, a draft Certification of Insurance Coverage, a draft Confidential Litigant Information Sheet, copies of any relevant orders and a copy of the marriage certificate.
